API 600 Gate Valves
API 600 is a design and manufacturing standard for steel gate valves developed by the American Petroleum Institute (API). First published in 1949, it has been updated to its 13th edition. The core positioning of API 600 gate valves is: full-bore valves specifically designed for critical locations in industrial pipelines such as oil, natural gas, chemicals, and power plants. They are primarily used to cut off or connect the medium in pipelines, and are particularly suitable for extreme conditions such as high temperature and high pressure.
Gate valves are typically used when a straight-line flow of fluid and minimum flow restriction are needed. They are well suited for high pressure and high temperatures, and can be used for a wide variety of fluid. Because the gate valve is symmetrical, either end can be the inlet, allowing flow to enter through either direction of the valve, otherwise known as bidirectional.
Advantages and Features of API 600 Gate Valves:
Low fluid resistance and strong flow capacity: When fully open, the fluid passage is straight, resulting in extremely low flow resistance and minimal energy loss.
Two-way sealing for zero leakage: The valve body employs a wedge design, relying on a dual mechanism of self-sealing by medium pressure and external forced sealing to ensure a tight seal when closed.
Reliable structure and resistance to extreme conditions: Strictly adhering to the API 600 standard, stringent requirements are placed on key components such as valve body wall thickness, stem diameter, and sealing performance.
Rising stem and intuitive status: API 600 explicitly mandates an rising stem and lifting structure (OS&Y). Operators can clearly determine the valve’s open or closed state by observing the stem’s position, preventing misoperation.
Fire safety design: The API 600 standard clearly stipulates the safety requirements of valves in extreme conditions such as fires, ensuring the valve’s fire safety.
Flexible material selection and strong adaptability: A variety of valve body materials can be selected according to different media, including carbon steel (WCB), stainless steel (CF8/CF8M), duplex stainless steel (2205), Hastelloy, vân vân. Standards have strict requirements for the low-temperature toughness and corrosion resistance of materials under extreme operating conditions.
Easy maintenance and convenient operation: The reverse seal design allows for the replacement and maintenance of vulnerable parts such as packing and gaskets without stopping the system.
There are many designs for the Gate valve, including rising and non-rising stem, knife, slab, and expanding.
Application
Cast gate valves provide optimum performance in conditions where high flow efficiency, tight shut off and long service is required. A wide choice of shell and trim materials do cover the whole range of applications, from the every-day type of non-corrosive service to critical service with highly aggressive media.
